Solar Power

Then when a car hits a utility pole or rain and high winds knock out your power and everyone else in your neighborhood, you will be asking the question is there an-other way.

There are two types of solar power. Passive power is when you use every means possible to create the natural power for your homes. For instance when you use sun-light to dry your clothes, and open windows to cool and light your house in the daytime, and close them at night for warmth, privacy and protection. They didn't have electric lights, or even security. They protected themselves using bows and arrows, knives, swords and guns. People used passive power for thousands of years before active power was invented. There were no electric lights; they used candles or gas lamps. They spent their entire lives protecting and caring for their families, and searching for or growing their food. They didn't know any other way to survive, so they used the sun to their advantage.

Today homes using active power use other sources for electricity. Because of that we have free time to do other things besides what our ancestors had to do to sur-vive.

Solar power uses the sun as well, and they also use pumps, blowers, and special boxes to deliver electricity to your home. The boxes are situated on the outside and are made of a dark metal that attracts the sun. The water or air that is carried in the pipes and ductwork is heated by this box that captures the sunlight. The heated air and water is then carried into your home.

Today everyone is talking about renewable resources. They tell us we are run-ning out of resources you know like oil and coal. They tell us we need to find other means to keep us in the lifestyle that we desire. Renewable resources consist of solar, wind, biomass, hydrogen, geothermal and hydropower.

Most of those resources need your utility companies. Solar Panels release you from those companies, and give you the electrical power to have your own source right on your own property. Just think, you can heat your own water, use all the electricity you want or need, and keep those appliances running. What could be better than that?

Buck Knives - Cuts With The Best

Buck Knives were first made in 1902. Hoyt Buck found a way to temper steel so knife blades would hold their edge longer. Hoyt hit upon the idea to use worn out file blades for the blades on Buck knives. During the Second World War Hoyt made as many Buck Knives as he could as his part of the war effort. When the war ended Hoyt founded H.H. Buck & Son in San Diego, California with his oldest son, Al, in 1947. Hoyt died in 1947 and Al continued leading the company.

Today, Buck Knives is a corporation with their manufacturing facility in Post Falls, Idaho. It is headed by third and fourth generations of the family. Buck knives produces knives for many different types of users. Most people are familiar with the hunting Buck knives. There are also Buck knives for fishermen, campers, military, law enforcement as well as limited edition Buck knives for collectors. You can even have a custom made knife from Buck knives.

Buck Knives was still using old file blades to make Buck knives until 1961 when the business was incorporated. Al Buck created the Buck knives Model 110 Folding Hunter lock blade knife in 1963. This knife, which is still popular today, was brought to market in 1964 and changed the knife industry. The model 110 helped move Buck knives into a prominent position in the knife world.

As stainless steel was invented it was found to have better qualities for knife blades and Buck knives started using the stainless steel for their knife blades. As knife steel evolved Buck knives kept looking for the best steels for their knife blades. Now Buck knives uses several different types of steel in their blades to give the customer the best product based on what the knife is intended for.

The heat treating process used by Buck knives today has been developed over many years. After the blade is initially shaped the steel is hardened through a heat-treating process. This process involves heating and cooling the steel in extreme temperatures. Through this process qualities are put into the steel based on what the intended performance of the knife is. This heating and cooling treatment by Buck knives results in knife blades that are ideally suited for their purpose.

Buck knives are super sharp. Using geometry, lasers and new technology Buck knives was able to change the angle of the sharpening, the length of the taper and the bevel. Automated grinding, hand edging and laser measuring is used to create a blade that is sharp out of the box, holds an edge longer and resharpens easier.

Select several handle types on Buck Knives. Just like Buck knives uses several types of steel they also use several types of materials for their knife handles. Plastics, composites, wood antler and horn are used. The wood comes from places such as Africa, South America and Hawaii. The natural horn comes from around the world, normally from naturally shed antlers.

You can see why Buck knives have and deserve the reputation for quality they have. The care and attention to detail that goes into each Buck knife is clear. They provide a lifetime warranty to Buck knife purchasers for repair, adjustment or replacement related to any defect in materials or workmanship on any Buck knives. If you bought one of their very first knives it would be over 100 years old and still under warranty.

Diy Taxidermy Begins With Careful And Accurate Skinning

Before stating to dress out your animal, consider the finished piece. Pelts can be tanned and displayed alone, or used in either a head or full-body mount. How you go about the skinning of any animal will depend on what you're going to do with it.

Pelts that will be displayed alone need fewer cutting skills. This type of skinning is a great place to start. Smaller animals such as squirrel and rabbit should make great practice. Larger projects should be reserved for later, when you're more skilled.

Once skinned and prepared, animal pelts can be used for a variety of things. Pelts of beautiful animals are sometimes used for public and private display. They can also be used to make animal fur rugs, and of course robes and fur coats as well.

Full-body and head mounts need very careful cutting and attention to the details. Every cut can mean the difference between a skin that fits the mount and one that doesn't cut it. Leaving enough of the skin to work with, preserving the integrity of the face, dealing with claws and ears are just a few of the concerns.

Well before you make the first slice, you will need to get some vital statistics on the animal. Inaccurate measurements of the body will need to be taken and noted. This is most important when the skin is going back on the animal in a mount. Good measurements now will make the work later a lot easier.

Now that you have your measurements, it's time to get the tools you need together. One is your standard hunting knife, it's typically large and sharp, ideal for first cuts. But for fine detail work, a short bladed knife such as a utility knife or kitchen paring knife is an absolute neccesity.

If you intend to mount the head of a elk or deer only, you need to skin down to a certain point on the shoulders.

Then, you need to preserve the entire head until you get back to your shop. Prepping to do a life-size mount means you need to get that animal completely skinned and back to the shop in record time.

Maybe you just want to tan the hide itself as a trophy. Get the steps right, keep your end goal in mind and you'll have beautiful trophy mounts and hides.

Hunters often make the same mistakes out in the field. They don't know how to take care of their kill and drive around for days with their deer in the back of the truck showing it off. By the time it gets to the taxidermist, it just isn't salvageable.

So don't make those mistakes, once you bag the prize, pack it up properly and get back to your shop where you can start the process.

Victorinox 48792 Cutlery 6-Piece Steak Knife Set

victorinox
RH Forschner by Victorinox is the knife of choice for professionals and consistently receives high accolades in product testing. This best-in-class commercial grade cutlery is now available for home use. RH Forschner by Victorinox knives feature high carbon, stainless steel blades, hand finished at Victorinox in Switzerland by skilled craftsmen. A special tempering process is used to produce an edge that can be resharpened over and over again, so the knife can keep its original sharpness throughout the entire life of the blade. Victorinox handles are ergonomically designed to minimize wrist tension. They provide a natural fit. A good heft and comfortable, positive grip are indications of a well-made knife. A sure-grip handle with a finger guard is valuable feature since the handle inevitably gets greasy, wet, or both. Although cutlery steel is naturally sanitary, materials and construction details of the handle minimize crevices what would offer hospitality to bacteria.

When steak is on the menu, pull out this set of six steak knives from Victorinox (model 88792), each of which features a pointed tip and serrated edge. Because the blades are stamped rather than forged the price is kept reasonable, yet the high-carbon, stainless steel is extremely durable and the ground, tempered edges maintain their razor-sharpness for a considerable length of time. The molded polypropylene handles provide a sure grip, have no grooves or rivets to harbor bacteria, and are dishwasher-safe. All in all, the knives are lightweight, very sharp, and designed to slice through meat with ease.

Started in 1884 in Switzerland, Victorinox is perhaps best known as the manufacturer of the Original Swiss Army Knife. Today Victorinox by R.H. Forschner makes everyday cutlery for the home as well as professional forged cutlery and multi-purpose tools. Hand-finished in Switzerland, the knives are covered by a lifetime warranty against defects. --Ann Bieri

Amish Built Solid Wooden Gun Cabinet.

If you are a collector or have a passion for firearms, rifles, shotguns, muzzleloader and pistols you are going to want a place or area to them. Way collect them if you cannot share them with the people you know would appreciate them. I cannot think of a better place than in the security of my home to show them off.

Having a handmade wooden gun cabinet to pass on to your heirs would be a precious family heirloom by its own right. If that beautiful crafted cabinet was to have your prized collection of rifles and shotguns to showcase inside your heirlooms cabinet and guns would be kept safe from damage and pass on to generation to generations to come.

If you cannot find an Amish craftsman locally there are some fine furniture makers all across America that still take a lot of pride and integrity in their craft. Most wooden gun cabinets are fitted with locks on the cabinet doors to insure that only authorized persons are to have access to your firearms inside. The gun storage supplies should be lockable to keep the ammunition and guns separate.

You firearms are not the only things that you can display inside your cabinet. I have seen arrowhead collections, Hummel's, hunting knives and collectible knives. The display cabinet is very versatile. With the cost that you have already invested into your collection investing in a way to display them and keep them secure from damage helps protect that investment for you and your grandsons someday.

Columbia River Knife And Tool

Columbia River Knife and Tool had a slow start, but in 1998 came out with a small knife called the Witch KISS means Keep It Super Simple. This knife has been designed by Ed Halligan. The kiss was the Columbia River Knife and success of the first tools. KISS outsole held on the first day. This was a great boost to the Columbia River knife and tool.

In 2000 the U.S. Customs knives confiscated some of the value of Columbia River Knife & Tool more than $ 4.3 million. The inspector believed that because the mechanism to assist the opening was as much a knife, even though these blades had thought many ways before, this time they did not. After 17 days CRKT knives came back. Even thought the knives are very easy and quick to open any of them fit the definition of a knife as defined by the U.S. Change the blade Act 1958.

Columbia River Knife and Tool make good hunting knives, military knives. They also make many different tools that are of high quality. These knives are simple but creative at the same time. I love mine and I'm sure it would be more than happy with one too.

About Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The forerunner of that name dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor or versatility.

Victorinox Cutlery BladeSafe For 8-to-10-Inch Knife Blades

  • Keeps blades sharp, protected, and in good working order
  • Made from durable polypropylene; dishwasher safe
  • Designed for 8- and 10-inch blades
  • A great way to transport cutlery safely; a lock on the holder secures knives for worry-free travel

  • A liner lock for safety

The convenient carabiner/bottle opener folds to guard the blade's tip. View larger.Simple, Lightweight, and Reliable
Sometimes, you don't need a toothpick, a pair of tin snips, or toenail scissor--you just need a strong, sharp, reliable cutting blade. The Crater c33 is a streamlined, folding knife with a sturdy, locking blade. Its durable, 60-percent glass-filled nylon handle is shaped and balanced to sit comfortably in your hand. And weighing in at just 2.36 ounces, the c33 will rest snugly in your pocket or pack.

The in-handle storage system means you won't have to carry a sheath, and the knife's folding carabiner clip makes it easy to attach your knife to a belt loop or the side of your pack, so it's always on hand when you need it. Mariners who keep their tools on lines will have a special appreciation for this clip. And it does double-duty as a bottle-opener. You can also opt to secure your knife with the included removable pocket clip. In short, this knife was designed to meet the practical needs of active outdoorsmen, and it delivers.

Premium, US-Made Steel for Performance
A sharp knife is not only more useful than a dull knife, it's also safer and easier to control. A blade with a durable precision edge lets you make the cuts you want safely and quickly.

Crater Series knives are crafted out of US-made 420HC steel from Crucible Metals. This steel was selected by Leatherman because it provides excellent edge retention, which means your knife stays sharp longer. Plus 420HC is tough, not brittle, and it is corrosion resistant.

Crater Series knives are finished with a hollow grind, the same "premium" grind found on straight razors and some high-end kitchen cutlery. This grind technique creates a natural release when cutting, so materials don't stick to the knife, giving you a better cutting edge. The knife's full 2.6-inch blade provides plenty of versatility for cooking up backcountry meals, cutting rope to build the perfect bear hang, or even breaking down boxes to toss in the recycling.

Locking, Drop-Style Blade for Safety
A liner lock lets you secure the blade of your c33 in the open position, so you don't have to worry about it closing on your hand while you cut. This safety feature is especially important when slicing through tough materials like braided nylon rope. Having a liner lock instead of a traditional lockback system makes the c33 easier to open with one hand. It also ensures that it's easy to unlock the blade and close the knife. A conveniently placed thumb stud contributes to the ease of one-handed operation, too.

Leatherman uses blades shaped in a drop-style for all their c33 knives because they fit nicely in the handle of your knife when not in use. Plus, a drop-style blade is stronger than a clip point blade, which you might see on other pocket knives.

When it is time to sharpen your knife, you'll appreciate that Leatherman knives can be re-sharpened using standard methods. There are many ways to maintain a sharp blade, so you should be able to find one that works well for you. Sharpening stones, round files, and special kits (not included) can help ensure long-lasting performance.

About Leatherman: Time-Tested Survival Tools
The original Pocket Survival Tool, devised by mechanical engineer Tim Leatherman, hit the market in 1983. By 1993, Leatherman was selling more than one million tools a year. In the blockbuster movie "Speed," Keanu Reeves used a Leatherman to save the passengers on a doomed bus. Even MacGyver has been seen with one of these trusty tools. But their best reviews come from everyday people. The Leatherman survival tool is a mainstay of travelers, sailors, fishermen, hunters, backpackers, and scouts.

The simple, lightweight Crater Series knives draw on Leatherman's legacy. While the c33 knife doe ...

Internet Business - Easy Money Or Hard Knocks

Websites necessities or basics:
Host/Server - to store all your files and images. E-mail and other perks. $8 to $12 month
Purchase your domain - www. mysite. com $8 to $???
Merchant/Credit Card service -Credit Card processing. This is a low price. $25Month, $15 service charge, and 30 cents per transaction and 2.5% of sales. (OUCH!)
Paypal - You can use Paypal for your payment option. It's free. I don't use it. Nothing is free.
Rent a ready-made store - Now you can go with a company who will host your site and provide a storefront for you. They will even give you products to sell. These are usually database type and provide no SEO. In other words, the only people who purchase from your site are your friends and family. No one can find your site in the Internet desert. You're on page 200 (if lucky). They run from $40 to $200 month.

Find a wholesaler? No problem, everyone is a wholesaler. What do you want to sell? Leather, Home Dcor, Knives and Swords, Collectibles or maybe Kitchen cookware?
Where are the real wholesalers? The ones they buy from. There are many scams and scam tools for sale out there. Now try ordering from them. Late? Back Ordered? Packing? drop ship costs? Shipping & Handling Costs? Drop ship or Inventory? Taxes???

Build your site - There are many templates out there that look good but if you don't know how to program HTML forget it. You will probably buy a book or software that shows us dummies that we can create HTML websites without having to know HTML. On the outside it looks good, but on the inside they stink. How are you going to find the time and keep up with the latest in this "part time business"? Search Engine robots don't like bad programming among other things.

Gather Information - Now that you have a wholesaler, download all the prices and images. Create your spreadsheets to upload all the product information (change them to CSV or some delimited format. Or you may have to do this one at a time Ahhh!
Fix the images - Adjust the resolution, size, etc. to fit your WebPages. Get the right software to do thisIt will save you days of work and cost. I hope you get this done before the prices change or the item is discontinued. Remember that if you have more than one wholesaler, you have more than one tax and drop ship charge. You also have different information and images. They could be in other formats.
My wife and I thought an Internet Shopping Mall would be so cool. We could have different stores, oh boyThat's where the name MallAboutTown.com came from. Oh yeah. Now you have to have a logo and a theme and all the right colors and, and, and.
It's kinda like building a house.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) - You should have been thinking about this from the start. Buy links, buy PPC (Pay Per Click) advertising, buy search engine submissions, buy content, submit articles and link to directories and other Websites, read, read, read and determine who is telling the truth.
After all the smoke clears, you will be in the hole a few bucks. When that first sale comes in you will feel like that golfer getting a hole in one. Then you're back at it, harder than ever. It's an addiction. I guess it could be described as the spouse that won't leave an abused relationship. Like any business, Internet business is not for the short-term commitment. There is so much I had to leave out because many things depend on what direction you take on this journey. Good Luck, remember if it's too good to be true..

Our advice is to personally talk to someone that is successfully operating E-commerce site, (not on e-bay) and get the facts. This is what made E-bay so popular. But even E-bay can be tough.
Good Luck,

How To Preserve Porcelain Tableware

How To Clean Your Porcelain Dinnerware

If you wish to clean stains or dried food from the dishes, soak them in warm soapy water for several minutes. With a light duty scrubbing sponge, gently wipe away any stuck on food. Do not scrub aggressively or use scouring pads, heavy duty scrubbers, or harsh cleansers. If the stain is still hard to remove, soak it longer.

For tea stains, use four cups of water with about two tablespoons of chlorine bleach. Let the tea cups soak for a few minutes, and then rinse them well.

For scrape marks left by forks and knives, use a gentle metal cleaner.

It is quite alright to use the dishwasher for you porcelain dinnerware (or tableware), but make sure that you use the fine china cycle on low heat. Do not place the items too close together; they should not touch during the cycle. Be sure to use a quality detergent as well.

Things to avoid

Naturally, you will want to always handle your porcelain tableware with the upmost care. So many scratches, chips, cracks, and breaks can be avoided if you take your time when serving, using, washing, and storing your tableware. Be careful.

You should not use your porcelain dinnerware to reheat food. Don't put it in the microwave or on the stove. While it is true that this pottery can handle high temperatures, you will still risk cracks and deformity.

Be careful not to create a temperature shock with your porcelain dinnerware. If you will be serving very hot food, warm the plates with tap water first. Applying hot food to cool porcelain dishes can cause cracks and breaks.

Porcelain pottery is special, and should only be used for special occasions. There is less of an opportunity for damage if you do not use your porcelain tableware frequently. A few choice holiday meals are good enough to use your special china.

Pottery is special and virtually priceless, so take good care of it and preserve it well.

From the Manufacturer

Who is Victorinox?
Although Victorinox is known the world over as the creator of the Original Swiss Army Knife, the company started out in 1884 as a cutlery workshop. By the time company creator Karl Elsener delivered his first pocket knife to the Swiss Army, his cutlery business was already booming. Over the next century, Victorinox cutlery became a top-rated choice among professionals worldwide, with over 300 blades to offer.

Victorinox knives have regularly appeared as highly ranked and recommended kitchen tools in Cook's Illustrated, Men's Health, The Cincinnati Enquirer, New York Magazine, and Natural Health, just to name a few. In 2009, the company announced a partnership with professional chef, Daniel Humm, of Eleven Madison Park in New York City. In addition, building on the success of its cutlery business, Victorinox has brought all the same quality and expertise to a wider range of products and accessories, including other kitchen tools, pocket tools, watches, luggage, and clothing.

Who is R.H. Forschner?
Victorinox had been a staple in European commercial cutlery for over 50 years when approached by New York's R.H. Forschner, known since 1855 as a builder of scales for butchers, to be their sole cutlery supplier. The two companies joined forces in 1937, and R.H. Forschner subsequently became North America's dominant professional brand, as ubiquitous in the bustling meatpacking plants of the Midwest as it is in the gleaming, four-star restaurant kitchens of Midtown Manhattan.

As a division of Victorinox/Swiss Army Brands, R.H. Forschner marketed cutlery under the brand name "RH Forschner by Victorinox" and distributed to the commercial, food service, and retail trade classes. That brand has been considered a top choice of professionals worldwide with over 300 styles of blades bearing the R.H. Forschner name. However, in 2009, in conjunction with Victorinox's 125th anniversary, the company, Victorinox Swiss Army, Inc., has decided to remove the "RH Forschner" name from all blades. Blades thenceforth only include the "Victorinox" name.

What is a stamped blade?
A stamped knife can usually be identified by the absence of a bolster. Stamped blades are cut into their shapes from cold-rolled pieces of steel and then ground, tempered, and sharpened. Creating them requires many less steps than forging and results in lighter, narrower blades. Some professionals prefer the thicker, heavier forged blades, but many pros, who spend much of their day cutting and slicing, enjoy a lighter knife since it's less fatiguing and easier to manipulate at speed.

Right Way To Properly Butcher A Deer

The first thing you should do is to dress the deer with a small slit at the crotch. Make a point to trim it beneath the hide and bring it near the rear of the sternum. The cut has to be a quarter and a half inch through the skin. As you travel across the stomach make sure that nothing falls out.

You must remove the internal organs with your hand and toss them in the right way. To skin the hide utilize a hunting knife with a quarter inch tip and carefully separate the thin membranous hide.

You will have to utilize a saw to take away the head. Then cut into the rear leg ankles in where the meat is that is set between the ligament and the bone. Suspend the deer from the limb of a tree using block and tackle with the hide facing towards the sky.

Saw through the deer's backbone starting at the bottom and traveling to the sternum. Then slice the shoulder joints and ham joints and put them aside to be wrapped. Every part of the deer that you are butchering will need to be enclosed firmly in tin foil or plastic.

SOG Specialty Knives & Tools TF-5 Trident Desert Camo (Copper TiNi)

sog knives
Blending elements from the Bowie, Tomcat, SEAL Pup, and Flash Series knives, SOG Specialty Knives and Tools has created a new breed of folding knife: the TF-5 Desert Camo Trident Knife with partially-serrated blade and copper TiNi coating. Designed for use by Navy SEALs, the TF-5 features SOG's grooved handle, which allows you to cut heavy cord and cable without having to open the specially designed blade. The TF-5's blade is easy to open and features Arc-Actuator technology, which helps the blade lock more strongly and release more easily.

The SOG TF-5 Trident Knife Offers:
  • A copper TiNi-coated partially-serrated blade
  • The ability to cut paracord, fishing line, and more without having to open the blade
  • A strong, reliable blade locking system
  • A contoured, glass-reinforced Zytel handle

Cut cords and cables quickly and safely with dedicated Groove technology. View larger.

A reversible clip lets the knife sit securely and discreetly in your pocket. View larger.
SOG Assisted Technology Increases Speed, Safety, and Usability
Fast, safe, single-handed opening makes SOG Trident Series knives incredibly easy to handle in a wide variety of situations. When you go to unfold the TF-5's blade, SOG's patented S.A.T. (SOG Assisted Technology) takes over. High-tension coil springs propel the blade open, so you can easily access it with just one hand.

S.A.T. knives offer security and peace of mind with their locking mechanisms that are stronger, more reliable, and easier to access than other knives'. For Trident Series knives, this means the blade is held in place with a reliable piston lock that can be quickly released with a sliding button. An additional safety lock offers extra security when the blade is closed, and for easy reference, the lock switch shows red when the knife is ready to be opened.

Cryogenic Heat Treatment and TiNi Coating Guarantee a Sharp, Durable Blade
The TF-5 offers a full, 3.75-inch, AUS8 stainless steel blade that has undergone SOG's patented Cryogenic Heat Treatment process, which ensures that this blade will stay sharp over the long haul. This intensive process takes more than 48 hours and involves slowly reducing the blade's temperature to less than -300 degrees Fahrenheit, then slowly heating the blade to room temperature. The stress created by this process strengthens the steel on an atomic level and increases the blade's overall durability and edge retention.

In addition to having undergone the Cryogenic Heat Treatment Process, this knife was coated in proprietary titanium nitride (TiNi), of the toughest coatings that can be applied to steel. TiNi boasts extreme hardness, is exceptionally scratch and peel resistant, helps increase steel's longevity, and ensures low reflectivity.

Ergonomic, Lightweight Design Ensures Comfortable Use
Even if your blade is sharp, it's hard to make precise cuts if your knife doesn't fit comfortably in your hand. That's why this knife's handle is ergonomically contoured. Crafted from tough, glass-reinforced Zytel, the handle is well-balanced and features SOG's unique Digi-Grip texturing, a feature that gives you gripping power where you need it most. Additionally, SOG's grooved handle allows you to cut heavy cord and cable without having to open the blade.

At just 3.6 ounces, this folding knife is lightweight and easy to carry. A reversible, bayonet-mounted clip extends from the back of the handle, allowing the knife to sit low in your pocket for the most discreet carry possible. The removable clip is easily switched for right/left hand-carry.

This knife is backed by a lifetime warranty that protects against defects in manufacturing and materials.

What You Need To Know About Hunting Knife Handles

Hard wood is one of the most popular materials for knife handles. Hard woods like Cocobolo, Rosewood, Ebony and Bubinga are used very most often. Other more exotic woods that are used are Guayacan, Pakkawood, Rose/Root. Wood handles provide good grip and are warm in the hand, but are more difficult to care for. They are relatively inexpensive and are easy to be shaped by the knife maker. A well shaped and polished hard wood handle feels extraordinarily good in hand while holding it or using it for cutting and slicing and they also look aesthetically very nice. They do not resist water well, and will crack or warp with prolonged exposure to water. Modern stabilized and laminated woods have largely overcome these problems. Many beautiful and exotic hardwoods are employed in the manufacture of custom and some production knives. Whatever you do, do not let a wood handle knife soak in a sink full of water. This will cause warping and delimitation of the handle. In some countries it is now forbidden for commercial butchers' knives to have wood handles, for sanitary reasons.

Micarta Handle

Micarta is a popular handle material on everyday work knives due to its toughness and stability. Micarta is impervious to water, is gripable when wet, and is an excellent insulator. Micarta has come to refer to any fibrous material cast in resin. There are many varieties of Micarta available. One very popular version is a fiberglass impregnated resin called G-10. Other types of Micarta, a composite synthetic material made of linen or paper with epoxy resin is commonly used in handle material. This is very strong, extremely durable and light. This comes in glossy or matte finish for grips and can be extremely durable. These are one of the best choices for tough heavy duty knives. Paper, linen and denim micartas are available for different degrees of toughness. There are many different polymer materials available, the best among them being ABS which is a high strength polymer that can be molded very easily and kraton - a springy polymer, mostly used as a flexible inlay in the grip. Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon is a polymer that can be molded using injection molding.

Horn and Bone Handles

More exotic materials usually only seen on art or ceremonial knives include: Cattle bone, mammoth tooth, mammoth ivory, walrus tusk, antler (often called stag in a knife context), sheep horn, buffalo horn. Many materials have been employed in knife handles. Stag is extremely popular although it is becoming more and more costly and rare. The charm of stag comes from the rough texture of the surface that gives a nice grip to the user. Some feel that it makes it hard to use. Stag handles should be carefully chosen after trying out the grip. These days many artificial handles are available to replace stag handles.

Leather Handles

Leather handles are seen on some hunting and military knives. Leather handles are typically produced by stacking leather washers, as a sleeve surrounding another handle material. The fabrication of the leather handle consists of soaking leather washers in a solution than stacking them one on top of the other on a sleeve then compressing them together with a clamp and let to dry. This process preshrinks the leather so it will not shrink after the knife handle is completed. Once dry the clamp is removed then contact surfaces of the wet formed dry washer's then need to have contact cement applied to contact surfaces. The contact cement takes just a few minutes to dry, they are then epoxied and stacked on the knife tang exactly how they were compressed the first time, clamped and let to dry. After drying the knife handle is then formed on a belt grinder. Great care is advised here. The grinder belt will eat leather like nothing else you have ever ground. A light touch is advised! The use of square leather washers is for a grinding index. It creates an index to keep the roundness of the handle in proper prospect. Finish the leather as desired, and apply a good sealer.

Rubber Handles

Rubber or textured handles are also available, as these are soft on the hands and provide a pretty good grip during wet conditions. Rubber handles such as Kraton or Respirine-C are generally preferred over plastic due to their durable and cushioning nature. Rubberized handles, due to their composition are the best grip for a hunting knife. They may not be the most appealing in appearance but are the least expensive and will hold up to vigorous day to day use.

An important decision that you should considered while buying a hunting knife is the grip offered by it. The handle should offer very strong grip because you will face such situations where blood will affect your grip on the handle. Pay attention to the contour of the handgrip while selecting a handle, it should be comfortable to hold. You should also look for the right kind of balance and weight between the blade and handle when selecting the perfect hunting knife.
