The FAST Draw knife is durable, lightweight, and reliable. View larger.
View larger.Innovative Technology for Quick, Reliable Deployment
The FAST Draw relies on Forward Action Spring Technology, or F.A.S.T., that was designed exclusively for Gerber and patented by famed Oregon knife maker Butch Vallotton. Butch is known as "Mr. Mechanism" in the custom-knife world, a tribute to his unique designs and exceptional understanding of opening and locking mechanisms. This new, proprietary blade opening concept means that you can deploy your knife quickly and easily using just one hand.
Of course, when a job calls for more deliberate actions, you can also open this knife in the traditional way, using the thumb stud. This is the closest you can get to a street legal switch-blade.
Convenient, Safe, and Dependable Over Time
A sharp knife is not only more useful than a dull knife, it's also safer to use. With a strong, sharp blade, you can make the cuts you want quickly and efficiently. That's why Gerber uses a high-carbon stainless steel blade on the FAST Draw. This large, 2.99-inch blade offers a fine-edged cutting surface that can easily be sharpened using standard methods. FAST Draw is the first in a series of knives utilizing "Fast Technonogy." Others include the Mini-Fast, Draw, Aluminum Presto 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, Vallotton, PR2.5 and PR3.0, Convert Fast, Mini Convert Fast, Answer 3.25, Tanto and Drop Point F.A.S.T.
This drop point blade, which is stronger than the clip-point style blades used on many pocket knives, fits neatly in the handle when not in use, so you don't have to worry about damaging it or hurting yourself.
The knife is precisely balanced to sit comfortably in your hand and features a glass-filled nylon handle for strength and durability. Texturing on the handle surface ensures a secure grip for improved control.
At just 3.6 ounces, the slim FAST Draw knife is light enough to take with you anywhere. And with the included sturdy pocket clip, you always know right where your knife is.
Gerber's History of Ingenuity
Savvy. Moxie. Craftsmanship. Attention to detail. These are just a few of the company traits that contributed to Gerber's emergence as a world leader in outdoor gear. Joseph Gerber started Portland, Oregon's Gerber Advertising back in 1910, and one Christmas, he hired a local knife-maker to craft 25 sets of kitchen cutlery as client gifts. The knives were so popular, Mr. Gerber ultimately left his agency to launch Gerber Legendary Blades in 1939.
For more than half a century, Gerber Legendary Blades has been helping people fend for themselves. Gerber designs popular, dependable tools and knives along with other outdoor gear that helps users accomplish whatever tasks they may be faced with, promoting the lost art of self-reliance.

Fixed Blade Knives: An Indispensable Item For Hunters.
Fixed blade knives are mostly hunting knives which are indispensable to a hunter. There are many types of such knives which can be used for specific purposes. But it is important to first learn about the different types of knives so that you can use them optimally. When you are better equipped with the right kind of hunting knife, you can deal with all the situations which may arise in your trip. It is also possible to use folding knives in place of the fixed blade ones, but both of them have their own advantages. Knives with a fixed blade are much tougher and resilient which is very necessary in outdoor trips.
The Use of the Bowie Knife
Among the very famous fixed blade knives is the Bowie knife. It is considered a very important part of a hunter's equipment and is made for aggressive use by the hunters. The blade is very sharp and can cut through small bones and muscles within seconds. In spite of regular use, it hardly loses its sharpness. Some of the knives are styled with serrations at the base which cut across animal flesh easily. This type of knife can be used for skinning and gutting the animals after catching them. Since it is a single piece of equipment, it is very strong and you will have a greater grip while hunting your game.
The Style of the Buck Hunting Knife
Buck hunting knives are also among the fixed blade knives you can carry for hunting. These are very handy and are excellent for cutting wires and are also useful for cutting meat too. These knives too hardly need any sharpening and are always ready to be carried with you for sudden hunting trips. It is quite useful as it saves you the effort of getting the knife sharpened before starting out. The edges of the knife have been styled in a way which leads to self sharpening all the time.
Make Your Own Knife
It is not always necessary to purchase ready made fixed blade knives from the market although the option is much more convenient. But if you are interested to add a personal touch to your knife, then you can also make it yourself. Buck antler is the preferred material for fashioning the knife. After making a handle out of this buck antler, the fixed blades are fitted to give a handsome knife. You can use the antler of a buck you have caught yourself which will give you the pleasure of being a possession of your very own.
Gift a Knife
Since there are many different varieties of fixed blade knives in the market made by special names in the industry, you can even gift one of them to one of your family members as a memento. It will be better if you can find out his preferences first. You can even fashion a knife especially for him with your own hands. Engraving the knife with his name and getting gemstones fitted will give it a different look. These knives would serve as decoration pieces and would look good as a collector's item. Whether you make a gift of it or use it for hunting purposes, these knives will do a wonderful job everywhere.

Look Out Gerber Knife Collectors
Have you ever thought to yourself that out of all the knives I have in my collection, there's still one that I can't take my eye off of? If so don't worry it's okay to have a favorite, the question is what knife should fill that favorite spot?
If you are anything like me, you started your knife collection when you were young, with just a few pocket knives you may have gathered up at the local flea market, or made an even trade for with your buddies. Then you moved on to buying your knives from a local dealer or even a local pawn shop, eventually ending up here, buying online.
I must say my collection of knives is going well so far and I still have a favorite even after all these years. My favorite knife is indeed a Gerber knife, and yes it has history behind it. It is the Mark II Gerber knife, and when I first laid eyes on one was back when my dad was in Vietnam. Since that day I knew I needed to own one someday.
I had searched for that Gerber knife for awhile and ran into those who didn't want to get rid of them, and then those that would sell and tried to get as much out of me as possible. Finally I found one that I could pick up fairly cheap. Apparently the guy was a Veteran and had a vintage Mark II Gerber knife; of course I took the offer.
The Mark II Gerber knife has since be redone and re-mastered over the years with better materials. I recently purchased the new and improved Mark II Gerber knife, and I must say it is identical to its twin from Nam, but you can tell it's a lot sturdier and it just gives you the sense of gratitude to hold in your hand knowing the history behind this Gerber knife.
So as you can see my favorite knife is a Gerber knife, yours can be any knife you want, but it has to be special if it's going to sit in that favorite spot. If you have a favorite knife already, you know how much it means among all your other knives. But if you are still looking for that special knife, I highly recommend a Gerber knife.
